Weirdest thing you found in your house

Ran a bath last night (downstairs bathroom) went to get in it shutting the bathroom door behind me and there sat behind the door was about a 5 week old kitten. I have a cat so did the right thing and put the little thing in a cat basket ready to call cats protection etc and the little vicious bastard sunk its fangs in to me. Most vicious little bastard i have every come across, go near it an its up on its back legs hissing baring its teeth etc

Had a big chimney breast in my dining room that I knocked down with my dad about 3 years ago. About 3/4 of the way through I was knocking out an artificial 'shelf' at the top that had been put in donkeys years ago, and the space above it was stuffed with screwed up newspaper. I opened one of the pieces of newspaper (which was actually in a surprisingly good condition considering how long it has been there) and the date of the particular newspaper was the exact date I was born. Spooky!

I remember that thread...
When my parents renovated our house in the 80's we pulled up the tiles in the kitchen. The property was 400 years old and these 1930's tiles had seen better days.
When we lifted them they were on top of the original compacted dirt floor. We knew the floor would have to be treated so we got a trowel and started having a poke around. Found a few old coins but in the corner was te remains of a cloth bag and inside were the skeletons of about 30 mice, all mummified in the position they croaked it in...
Why anyone would want to bury a bag of mice is beyond me but Cornwall 400 years ago liked a bit of the Occult...Three weeks after the roof fell in, I shit you not.

Not uncommon to find mummified animals in old houses.
Cats, mice, rats that sort of thing. It is arguably a ritual thing to ward off vermin. We'll never really know of course.
And if you're lucky and your house is old enough you can find witches' marks carved into your roof timbers.
I frequently find old newspapers in houses, always look our for the West Ham results if the back pages are still there.
My mum and dad found an old straw boater hat when they had the loft converted into a bedroom. I get the impression that was left there by the builders in the Victorian times as a sort of good luck charm as well.
People are weird.

Not my house but....20 odd years ago,my mate's sister and brother-in-law bought a big old house down in Dorset.In the lounge was a huge fireplace that had been bricked up so they set about the wall with sledge hammers and a skeleton was found.They reckon it was 100 years + old and he'd tried to break in down the chimney....what a horrible death

My old boss' brother won a competition in Sweden for finding the oldest food item in their house. He had some 27 year old cake. For some inexplicable reason.

To clarify my earlier comment, it wasn't my loft that the candles etc were found in. It was my clumsy attempt at quoting an earlier thread, albeit without any quotation marks or indication that it was a quote!

Took a stud wall down in our old house and found penis pump in it. In the same house i found a snapped off metal radio aeriel buried in the plaster in the kitchen (presumably but there by a plasterer to annoy an electrician).

Almost the same as the kitten story and indeed involved a downstairs toilet!
Walked in one and found a live wet huge rat on the bathroom floor!
Put a bucket over its head and got someone else to deal with it!
